BIOGRAPHY

Strickland was born in Hull, England, on 6 March 1911. She moved to Kensington, London, at an early age. At the age of 14, she left school to partake in a dressmaking apprenticeship, and would become very talented in the field.

She later moved to Brentford, and worked in the area as a tailor and seamstress. During World War II, her company was evacuated, but she decided to stay with her mother and work in a factory which built aircrafts. In 1946, she married Bill “Dudley” Strickland; the couple had two children. In the 1950s, she did a lot of sewing at home to support the family. After retiring in the 1970s, she moved to Eastbourne, East Sussex. [source]

Strickland’s husband died in 1984. In 2001, she moved to Hounslow, London, to be closer to her family. She would remain there for the rest of her life, dying on 16 January 2024 at the age of 112 years, 316 days.
