Edna Hedwige Lawler (née Lemna) was an American supercentenarian. Her age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) and recognised by LongeviQuest.
Edna Lawler was born in Goodland, Indiana, USA, on 13 January 1904. She was the eldest of six children born to parents August Lemna (1871–1956) and Philomene Marie Dionne (1877–1962). Her father was a farmer, and the family moved from one rented farm to another until he was able to purchase his own land in Beaverville, Illinois.
Lawler began her education in a one-room schoolhouse, but left after her first year of high school to help on the family farm. She later left home to work as a domestic in Kankakee, where, through mutual friends, she met her future husband, John Francis Lawler (1905–1989), who lived in Harvey. The two maintained a long-distance romance until, at the age of 30, she married and established her own home in Harvey. There she raised four daughters and was an active member of Ascension Catholic Church, remaining part of the parish for most of her life.
Around the age of 100, she moved to Waterford.
Edna Lawler passed away at Beecher Manor Nursing Home in Beecher, Illinois, on 31 January 2016, at the age of 112 years, 18 days.
Lawler’s age was verified by Anson Davis, Mark Muir, Waclaw Jan Kroczek, Robert Young, and Irma Pestlin, and was validated by the GRG on 24 August 2015.
