Dr. Edith Helene Kaufmann was a Czech-born British supercentenarian. Her age has been validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO).
Edith Kaufmann was born in Děčín, Ústí nad Labem, Bohemia, Czech Republic (then Austria-Hungary), on 12 December 1903. She earned her doctorate from the University of Vienna in the 1920s. Together with her husband, Paul, she fled Vienna in the late 1930s. After leaving Austria, she rebuilt her life in London, where she formed lasting friendships across England and around the world—including as far away as Australia and Argentina.
Edith Kaufmann passed away in Barnet, London, England, on 7 October 2015, at the age of 111 years, 299 days.
Kaufmann’s age was verified by Dr. Andrew Holmes, Mark Muir, and Stefan Jamin, and was validated by the ESO on 2 February 2020.
