BIOGRAPHY

Edie Dryden was born in Wandin, Victoria, Australia, on 16 October 1915. She was one of eight children. Her father was an orchardist who also ran a strawberry farm and worked as a builder. She lived in Wandin until the age of three, when the family moved to the seaside town of Rosebud. There, she grew up and attended both primary and high school. As a child, she loved writing stories, many of which were later published in magazines such as New Idea and Reader’s Digest.

She met her husband, Edward (Ted) Dryden, in Rosebud, and they were married in 1933 at St Francis Xavier Church in Frankston. In the early years of their marriage, Ted worked for his uncle on a dairy farm, delivering milk by horse and cart. Together, they had six children, though sadly, their daughter passed away at a young age. In December 1960, Edie and Ted moved to Yackandandah, where they purchased and ran the local bakery for 11 years. It was a country bakery and mixed business, with Ted driving a van to deliver goods throughout the district.

Dryden lived independently until she was 101 years old, after which she moved into aged care.
