Doris Veale was born in Kensington, London, England, United Kingdom, on 19 January 1911. She left school at the age of 14. Her first job was in an office at Mullard, a company that manufactured electronic components.
In 1932, she married Harold Veale at St. Paul’s Church in Woodford Bridge. She was introduced to her future husband by a colleague at the office. Her husband worked at Shell (oil company) in the city. Together, they managed several pubs, including the Crown and Crooked Billet in Woodford Green. During World War II, she contributed to the war effort as an office worker. Around 1958, the couple moved to Gidea Park, where they spent many years until Harold’s death in 1989.
Veale was deeply involved in her community, being an active member of the Squirrel’s Heath Floral Art Club for over 30 years and participating in the townswomen’s guild movement for about six years. She celebrated her 100th birthday with festivities at Romford Golf Club, surrounded by friends and family.
Veale passed away in Romford, London, England, United Kingdom, on 30 May 2021, at the age of 110 years.
Her age was verified by Dr. Andrew Holmes, and validated by the ESO on 6 February 2022.
