BIOGRAPHY
Hays was born in Hippo, Kentucky on 18 March 1895. She married widower Joe Hays, seven years her senior, and the couple had two children: Joe Jr. and Mary, in addition to her three stepchildren, Lois, Lucy, and Elvin. She was widowed in 1972.
Hays died in Irvine, Kentucky on 28 June 2007 at the age of 112 years, 102 days.
RECOGNITION
Following the death of Mattie Yates, 111, on 26 June 2006, Hays became Kentucky’s oldest known resident. She was succeeded by 110-year-old Benjamin Anglin, who died the following month.
