BIOGRAPHY

Clarence Glauner was born in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania, USA on 22 March 1910. He was the third of eight children born to George Glauner (1879–1922) and Mary Cairns (1880–1980). He grew up on the family farm. During the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, his father and several siblings were affected and bedridden. His father survived but died four years later in 1922, at the age of 42.

In April 1930, he married Margaret “Peg” Armstrong. The couple had two children: Betty Louise and Leroy.

In 1940, at the age of 30, he was drafted, but was exempt from service during World War II. He tried several different jobs before becoming a plumber’s apprentice, including dairy farming and metal roofing. In 1945, he opened his own plumbing service, C.C. Glauner, located in West Chester, Pennsylvania. In 1960, he bought a 50-acre farmhouse in Dushore, Pennsylvania.

In 1975, he retired along with his wife. In 1980, his mother passed away at the age of 99.

In 2008, his wife passed away at the age of 100. Glauner attributed his longevity to a combination of good genes and a lifetime of work, activity, and healthy eating. He continued hunting and fishing even as a centenarian. He was a member of the Malvern Hunting Camp in Mifflin County for 72 years. He was a Mason. At the age of 110, he had two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Glauner passed away in Wyomissing, Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA on 17 August 2020 at the age of 110 years, 148 days.
