BIOGRAPHY

Clara Moll was born in Mountain View, Missouri, United States, on 19 December 1910, as one of five siblings born to her parents. At the age of 5, she was adopted by her godparents, Hugh and Sophia Henry, and began living in their home in Wisconsin. As a child, she was said to be a tomboy who preferred to climb trees and swim across the nearby Wallace Lake than play with dolls. Her godmother, Sophie, was a strict parent who ensured that her children were brought up in accordance with the Catholic faith, where the family prayed the Rosary every day of the year.

In 1925, she graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School, having attended the school in an era when the building lacked indoor plumbing, heating, or electricity. After graduating from high school, she became employed by Pocket Book Co as a typist. Some years later, she met and married her husband, Alois Moll, and the couple had at least three children together.

In 1981, she was in a hospital recovering from a hysterectomy when a tornado struck her town of West Bend, managing to avoid its path of destruction as the hospital was on top of a hill. In her later years, she lived at home with her daughter, Mary, and kept herself active by walking. At the age of 106, she was still able to read without glasses, with her only significant age-related health condition being hearing loss. At the age of 110, she attributed her longevity to exercise, and continued to walk around her home with the aid of a walker.

Clara Moll passed away in Barton, Wisconsin, United States on 4 March 2021, at the age of 110 years, 75 days.
