Chiyo Shioya (Japanese: 塩谷ちよ) was a Japanese supercentenarian.
Chiyo Shioya was born in Wakkanai Village, Hokkaido, on 27 February 1899. She spent her entire life in Wakkanai, where she was blessed with children and grandchildren. Skilled in traditional Japanese sewing, she taught kimono tailoring classes at home for many years.
At the age of 103, she moved into a nursing home in Wakkanai, where she continued to live comfortably. When a professional singer came to perform there, she presented the artist with a bouquet on behalf of the residents, saying, “This is my first time seeing a professional singer. Please keep up the good work.”
Shioya passed away from natural causes in Wakkanai on 27 May 2009, at the age of 110 years, 89 days.
In 2007, at the age of 108, she became the seventh-oldest person in Hokkaido. By 2008, at 109, she was recognized as the third-oldest woman in the prefecture.
At the time of her death, she was the second-oldest person in Hokkaido, after Hatsue Ono.
Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Ryohei Asano, and validated by LongeviQuest on 15 August 2025.
