Chiyo Sakihara (Japanese: 崎原 チヨ) was a Japanese supercentenarian.
Chiyo Sakihara was born on 21 February 1914, in Nishihara Town, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. In her late 70s, she contributed to the preservation of the town’s history as a storyteller, passing down the stories of Nishihara. In her early 90s, despite requiring some support, she regularly attended a day-service center three times a week.
At the age of 100, during an event at the nursing home where she lived, she received professional hair and makeup styling, donned a pure white wedding dress, and cheerfully posed for photos, flashing a peace sign.
On 11 March 2024, she passed away from natural causes at the age of 110 years, 19 days.
In September 2022, at 108 years old, she was recognized as the 12th-oldest person in Okinawa Prefecture.
By September 2023, at 109, she had become the 5th-oldest person in the prefecture.
At the time of her passing, she was the third-oldest living person in Okinawa, behind Kikue Taira and Shizuko Kiyuna.
Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Ryohei Asano and Yumi Yamamoto, and validated by LongeviQuest on 1 April 2025.
