Chiyo Chōki was born in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, on 10 November 1907. Her husband died in World War II. After the war, along with her three children, she moved to her parents-in-law’s house in Jiromaru, Kunisaki City. She was a producer of rice and a local native plant used to make tatami mats.
It was reported that, while she was in her 90s, she fell into the river three times and broke her bones, but quickly recovered. At the age of 107, she said that ever since her youth she enjoyed taking care of herself and others.
Chiyo Chōki passed away in Kunisaki, Ōita Prefecture, Japan, on 4 February 2019, at the age of 111 years, 86 days.
At the time of death, she was the second-oldest living person in Ōita Prefecture, behind an anonymous woman from Hiji.
