Chiwake Nakamura [Japanese: 中村千別] was a Japanese supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in Nagano Prefecture and the second-oldest living man in Japan, behind Yukichi Chūganji at the time of his death.
Chiwake Nakamura (中村千別) was born on December 31, 1889, in Ina (then Ina Town or Village), Nagano Prefecture, Japan, as the eldest son among seven siblings in a farming family.
In 1944, he became the executive secretary of the local health insurance union in Ina Town at the time, and was involved in the establishment of Ina Chūō General Hospital. After serving as president of the Ina East Youth Association and as a town councilor, he worked as head of the city’s health department and retired at the age of 65 in 1978.
At the age of 110, he was living with a family of ten, including his eldest son and daughter-in-law, his grandchild and their spouse, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed eating meals together with his family and was still able to walk outside with the help of a cane.
When asked about the secret to his long life, he said, “Having peace in the home is the key to longevity.”
As of September 1999, he ranked among the ten oldest living people in Japan and was the third-oldest living man in the country, behind Sadayoshi Tanabe and Yukichi Chūganji.
On July 7, 2000, Nakamura passed away of natural causes at the age of 110 years and 189 days at a hospital in Ina City, Nagano Prefecture. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living person in Nagano Prefecture and the second-oldest living man in Japan, behind Yukichi Chūganji.
His age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 7 March 2000 and later recognized by LongeviQuest.
