BIOGRAPHY

Slough was born as Carmen Blanco in Douglas, Arizona, on 5 April 1914 as the daughter of Spanish immigrants. She married Alfred Slough and they ran a business, Slough’s Market, together.

After the death of her husband in 1948, Slough raised their son, Robert “Bob”, on her own, and put him through college; he later became a teacher and coach. For 47 years, she and her brother Edward co-owned and operated Carm-Ed’s Men and Boy’s Clothing Store.

In her later years, Slough became well known in her community of Globe, Arizona, for her philanthropy and involvement in local matters. Aged 100, she was honoured as the oldest living Globe High School graduate, and was introduced into its Hall of Fame.

Slough died on 27 April 2024 at the age of 110 years, 22 days. She was survived by her son Bob, her two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as her brother Antonio “Tony” Blanco.

RECOGNITION

On 17 March 2024, following the passing of Milly Skjordahl, she became the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Arizona.

Slough’s age was verified by Fabrizio Villatoro and validated by LongeviQuest on 24 April 2024.
