Carmen Gómez González was a Spanish supercentenarian.
Carmen Gómez González was born in Potes, Cantabria, Spain, on 23 January 1905. At the age of three, she moved to Salamón, in the province of León—her mother’s hometown. Her husband, Albertino López Recio, whom she married on 30 November 1929, worked as a town clerk. His profession led Carmen to live in various places across León, Extremadura, and Galicia. The couple had three children—Deotina, Leticia, and Ángel López Gómez—and eventually settled in the city of León.
At 108 years old, Carmen was living with her daughter Leticia and her younger sister Purificación, who was fifteen years her junior. She spent her days peacefully in an armchair and hadn’t left the house in nearly four years. She enjoyed reading a wide range of books, including historical works, biographies, riddles, and even joke collections. Although her memory had declined, she was reported to be in excellent health. At the time, she had eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her last surviving sibling, Purificación, passed away on 19 March 2015, aged 95.
Carmen Gómez González passed away in León, Castile and León, Spain, on 20 August 2016, at the age of 111 years, 210 days.
Her age has not been validated.
