Carmela Velardi was an Italian supercentenarian. Her age has been validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO).
Carmela Velardi was born in Palermo, Sicily, Italy, on 22 October 1906.
Around the age of 40, she moved to Milazzo with her husband, a former Enel official who, after spending much of his life in Cefalù, chose to return to his hometown. A devoted mother of six (including Gloria, Santina, Antonia, and Melo), she dedicated herself to homemaking but also had a brief stint in cinema, playing the mother of actress Delia Scala in the film Vacanze d’amore (1955), which was shot in Cefalù.
At 111, it was reported that she remained lucid despite some ailments. She ate little but still enjoyed chocolate.
Carmela Velardi passed away in Milazzo, Sicily, on 21 April 2019, at the age of 112 years, 181 days.
Velardi’s age was verified by Alessandro Delucchi and Paolo Scarabaggio, and was validated by the ESO on 15 January 2020.
