BIOGRAPHY

Grez Martínez was born in Curicó, Maule Region, Chile, on 1 March 1911, as the oldest of five children. Her father died at the age of 93.

In 1931, she married Aristides Ahumada, and the couple had 10 children (seven daughters and three sons), with four still living as of March 2021. She also had 38 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren, and 80 great-great-grandchildren.

At the age of 108, she used to knit, move around the house independently, and was always very active. She was also deeply religious. It was reported that she experienced medical problems in her centenarian years. She suffered a fall and was taken to Curicó Hospital, where she underwent an immediate operation and successfully recovered.

Grez Martinez passed away in Curicó, Maule Region, Chile, on 27 October 2023, at the age of 112 years, 240 days.

RECOGNITION

At the time of her passing, she was the second-oldest (known) living person in Chile, after Eudocia Barría Barrientos, who was less than a month older.

Her age was verified by Dr. Mónica Almonacid and Fabrizio Villatoro, and validated by LongeviQuest on 2 April 2024.
