Arnold Seymour Hawkins was a Canadian supercentenarian who, at the time of his passing, might have been the oldest living man in Canada.
Arnold Hawkins was born in Beaver Harbour, New Brunswick, Canada, on 30 January 1911. He was the eldest of nine children born to parents Almon Seymour Hawkins (1889–1957) and Lucy Jane Pond (1887–1945). He grew up in a small fishing village of Beaver Harbour. At one point, he enrolled in business college for six months before deciding that he “could make more money digging clams than being a businessman.”
Hawkins devoted over 40 years to his career as a fisherman, a profession that shaped much of his life. He built his own home in Beaver Harbour and remained deeply connected to his community throughout his years. At some point, he married Vera Hawkins, and together they raised five children: Ronald, Wayne, Belva McIntyre, Anita Frye, and Violet McKinley.
His paternal grandmother, Levenia Mary Johnson (15 July 1866 – 10 February 1974), reportedly lived to be 107 years, 210 days old.
Arnold Hawkins passed away in Beaver Harbor, New Brunswick, Canada, on 18 September 2021, at the age of 110 years, 231 days. He was survived by his five children, 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Following Robert Wiener‘s death on 17 February 2019, he became the oldest known Canadian-born man. At the time of his passing, he could have been the oldest living man in Canada.
In January 2021, he celebrated his 110th birthday, becoming the first documented male supercentenarian in the Province of New Brunswick.
His age has not been validated.
