Apolonia Malate was born in Dingras, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on 4 March 1899, just after the Treaty of Paris, which gained the United States the control of the Philippines.
At some point, she got married and went on to have three children: Vincent, Quirino, and Feliza. At some point in her life, she immigrated to Ewa Beach, Hawaii, where she would live the rest of her life with her son Quirino.
She celebrated her 105th birthday in March 2004 in a John Dominis Restaurant with her two sons, daughter-in- law, grandson, and granddaughter.
Malate passed away in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, USA, on 4 December 2009, at the age of 110 years, 275 days. She was survived by two sons Quirino, and Vincent; one daughter Feliza Peralta; two brothers Alex Sr., and Philip Juan; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
At the time of her passing, she was the oldest (known) living person in the U.S. state of Hawaii.
