Antònia Llanes Aiguadé was born in Vilanova de Bellpuig, Catalonia, Spain on 7 March 1912. She had two sisters and one brother. Her first job was at the town’s candy factory. When she came of age, her family moved to Monistrol de Montserrat, where she began working in a textile factory. Just as the Spanish Civil War broke out, her father died in Barcelona from an intestinal infection, and her brother, the only man left in the family, enlisted in the navy. During this time, the three sisters stayed at home with their mother. They raised rabbits as livestock at the time. During trips to Lleida, she recalled seeing dead bodies along the road. The most harrowing moments occurred during bombings that forced them to take refuge in caves in Montserrat. A few years after the war ended, they moved to Manresa, where she continued to work in a textile factory.
At the age of 31, she married Salvador Garriga Graells. The following year, she gave birth to their first daughter, Maria del Carme, and two more children followed.
On her 100th birthday, the Councilor for the Elderly, Àuria Caus, visited her to present a plaque and a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the City Council of Manresa.
