Annie Hill was born in Sessions House Yard in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, England, on 3 October 1908, as one of nine (or ten) children. She spent most of her life on St. Oswald Avenue before moving to a nursing home in her later years. As a child, she attended Love Lane School and later began her working life at a bakery on Sessions House Yard in Pontefract. However, the majority of her career was dedicated to Dunhills, a renowned sweet manufacturer. Although she never married or had children, she was very close with her extended family.
In 2012, she moved to Priory Gardens Care Home in Pontefract. She once attributed her longevity to a daily tot of whisky, though she eventually switched to gin and lemonade.
Annie Hill passed away in Pontefract, on 11 February 2019, at the age of 110 years, 131 days.
Following the passing of 109-year-old Alice Eastwood (25 June 1908 – 12 January 2018) of Huddersfield, she became the oldest (known) living person in West Yorkshire. She held the title until her own passing in February 2019, when she was succeeded by Louie Chambers (28 February 1910 – 26 March 2019) of Leeds.
Hill’s age was verified by Dr. Andrew Holmes and validated by the ESO on 27 December 2020.
