Ane Dorthea “Anna” Nielsen was a Danish-born Canadian supercentenarian. Her age has been validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO).

BIOGRAPHY

Anna Nielsen was born in Falslev, Nordjylland (North Jutland Region), Denmark, on 2 April 1904. She married and had one child before relocating to New Brunswick in 1920. In 1944, she moved west to British Columbia.

Over the years, she and her husband raised six children—five daughters and one son. Their marriage lasted more than sixty years, until his passing in 1989. Although she devoted many years to being a stay-at-home mother, she also worked outside the home, cleaning numerous buildings in Vancouver, including the iconic Orpheum Theatre.

Anna Nielsen passed away in Langley, British Columbia, Canada, on 19 June 2015, at the age of 111 years, 78 days. She was survived by her daughters: Molly, Norma, Joan, and Lula, as well as 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-great-grandchildren.

RECOGNITION

Nielsen’s age was validated by the ESO on 22 March 2020.
