BIOGRAPHY

Lee was born in Dawson, Minnesota, USA, on 30 November 1906, to parents Alvin O. Waterud (1877–1965) and Ida Malina Thoreson (1885–1950). She had a younger sister, Helen Victoria Holtan (1914–1994). She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Dawson Public School with the class of 1924. She worked in her father’s mercantile in Dawson until she married.

On 2 June 1936, she married Arthur Lee (1900–2000) of Clarkfield, and they welcomed their son, Jon Charles, in 1939. After their marriage, the couple moved to Clarkfield, where her husband managed the Cenex station and also started a transport company in Montevideo. She was actively involved in her church, Clarkfield Lutheran, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of both the Ladies Chorus and Senior Choir. She was always eager to volunteer wherever needed at Clarkfield Lutheran. Additionally, she had a deep passion for Minnesota sports teams and enjoyed watching and listening to their games. She moved into the Clarkfield Care Center in 2007 after having broken her hip on a shopping trip.
