Ana Martínez Llamas was born in Estébanez de la Calzada, Castile and Leon, Spain, on 17 March 1910. She grew up in a humble farming family as the second of six siblings. Despite the economic and educational hardships of her time, at the age of 10, she took her first steps towards a religious life by entering the Congregation of the Holy Family (Congregación de la Sagrada Familia) in Córdoba, where she completed a two-year novitiate. She made her religious profession there at the age of 19. Following this, her dedication to the evangelical mission of her congregation led her to various destinations in both France and her native Spain.
The residents of her native Estébanez de la Calzada remembered her as an “example of perseverance, service, and love.” Despite her long absence from the town, her community honored her 110th birthday with a heartfelt tribute, celebrating her simplicity, dedication, and the joy she brought to others.
Ana Martínez Llamas passed away in Madrid, Community of Madrid, Spain, on 9 August 2020 at the age of 110 years, 145 days.
At the time of her passing, she was the oldest (known) living nun in Spain.
Her age has not been validated.
