Roth was born in Camden, Indiana, USA, on 7 January 1876, to parents Allen Roth (né Rhodes; 1843–1900) and Elizabeth Dilling (1851–1892). She had four sisters, including Emma (1870–1938), Rosa Mae (1879–1982), and Sadie Myer (1887–1975).
Roth worked as a cashier of the Farmers Bank in Camden (later the Camden State Bank). She was a member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Camden. She never married nor had children. In 1973, she moved into the nursing home in Flora. While there, she lived alongside her younger sister, Rosa, who was three years her junior. Rosa passed away in February 1982 at the age of 102. Both sisters never married nor had children. When asked why, Rosa replied, “We just decided we would rather paddle our own canoe.”
