Thompson was born in Flora, Mississippi, United States on 17 March 1911. Alice Thompson was born in Flora, Mississippi, United States on 17 March 1911. At some point, she married John Lee Thompson and the couple had 10 children. She was widowed in 1953. She moved to Chicago in 1955 and eventually settled in Berkeley, where she lived for over a decade with her youngest daughter, Dorethea Graham.
At the age of 109, she was in good health, aside from arthritis, and remained lucid. Even at 111, she remained in good health, attributing her longevity to the Lord, while her daughter-in-law credited it to a healthy lifestyle, good sleep, and the love of her family. Her birthdays became community events, with Berkeley firefighters and village employees celebrating her milestones with a caravan.
Thompson passed away in Berkeley Village, Illinois, USA, on 1 January 2023, at the age of 111 years, 290 days. She was survived by her five children, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
At the time of her passing, she was the oldest (known) living person in the U.S. state of Illinois. Upon her passing, she was succeeded by Vivian Forst.
