Peters was born as Adella M. Keenan in Everett, Washington on 6 February 1895 as the fourth of six children born to James and Anna Keenan. At the age of 11, she relocated with her family to Saginaw, Michigan.
Upon her graduation from St. Mary’s High School, Peters worked on the railroad for several years. She moved to Detroit, where she married Stanley Peters. The couple had no children.
Peters was employed by the city of Detroit for 17 years. She was widowed in 1972, and moved back to Saginaw in 1994. In her later years, she attended Mass daily, and partook in bingo games and musical programs at her nursing home.
Peters died on 23 July 2005 at the age of 110 years, 167 days. She was survived by her nieces and nephews.
Following the death of 112-year-old Marcella Humphrey on 21 November 2004, Peters, then 109 years old, became Michigan’s oldest known resident. Upon her own death, the title may have passed to Daisey Bailey (1896 – 2010).
Peters’ age was verified by Filipe Prista Lucas and validated by the GRG on 14 April 2006.
