Adelina Maria Catena Febronia “Adele” Riitano was an Italian supercentenarian who was the third-oldest living person in Sicily. Her age has been validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) and recognised by LongeviQuest.
Riitano was born in Lipari, Sicily, Italy, on 23 December 1908 as the daughter of Bartolo Riitano and Teresa Giardina. When she was eight years old, her father died; she, her schoolteacher mother, and three brothers subsequently moved to Messina. She returned to Lipari a few years later, where she remained for the rest of her life.
Riitano married Aldo Carnevale and had two daughters, Anna and Maria. During her centenarian years, she was reported to have a gentle, calm personality.
Riitano died in her hometown of Lipari on 16 January 2019 at the age of 110 years, 24 days.
Riitano’s age was verified by Alessandro Delucchi and validated by the ESO on 25 May 2021.
