BIOGRAPHY

Adelaide Sofia was born in Meijinhos, Viseu District, Portugal, on 1 November 1913. At the age of 27, she got married and went on to have children.

In September 2004, at the age of 90, it was reported that she was living with her son in a house without electricity and wished to have it installed. At that time, they were still using candles and oil lamps for lighting at night. During an interview, she mentioned that they had asked the City Council several times to install electricity, but nothing had been done. She appeared in the media once again in February 2005 for the same reason. At that time, she remarked that they couldn’t store food at home and had to visit the grocery store several times a week.

Adelaide Sofia passed away in Melcões, Viseu District, Portugal, on 12 July 2024, at the age of 110 years, 254 days.
