Severa Balcarce de Cruz was born in the village of La Almona, Jujuy Province, Argentina, on 8 November 1914. At the age of 19, she married Francisco Cruz, with whom she had 13 children (seven daughters and six sons).
Her granddaughter Violeta described her as a true “gaucho grandmother” who instilled their family traditions in them from an early age. On her 104th birthday, Balcarce shared that she was feeling well but could no longer walk and relied on a wheelchair to get around.
At the age of 108, she had 30 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Severa Balcarce de Cruz passed away in La Almona, Jujuy Province, on 21 January 2025, at the age of 110 years, 74 days. She was survived by six of her children (Lucila, Policarpa, Gregoria, Angélica, Santiago, and Armando Cruz).
Her age was listed as a pending validation by the LAS as of 15 November 2022. The validation process was completed by Stefan Maglov, Fabrizio Villatoro, and Gabriel Ainsworth, and her age was validated by LongeviQuest on 8 April 2025.
