BIOGRAPHY

Iseno Yamagami was born in Japan on 13 August 1907. She worked as a farmer, and her daily routine was to weed the fields and work around the house. Ever since she was young, she liked to work steadily, and enjoyed drinking shōchū (a Japanese distilled beverage) after work.

At the age of 109, when asked about the secret of her longevity, she said: “I’m not picky about food, I eat everything.”

Iseno Yamagami passed away in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, on 6 January 2019, at the age of 111.

RECOGNITION

In September 2018, she was reported as the sixth-oldest living person in Fukuoka Prefecture, after Kane Tanaka, Haruno Yamashita, Chizuko Yoshizawa, Yoshi Otsunari and Yuki Kamitamari.

Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Ryohei Asano, and validated by LongeviQuest on 21 July 2023.
