Gladys Henry was born in South Carolina, USA, on 22 March 1904. Her parents were George and Ella Washington, and she was one of ten children. Her siblings were Mary, Corrie, Elijah, Ransom, Florence, Mammie, Annie, Minnie, and Leola. The family lived in Abbeville before later moving to Belton.
In her adult life, Gladys married Willie Henry, with whom she had three children: Jessie, Eugene, and Willie Henry Jr.—all of whom she eventually outlived. She later married K.C. Robinson and embraced his ten children as her own: Robert, Clara, Carrie Lou, Ida Mae, Cora Lee, Sarah Lee, Rosevelt, Alice, Bessie, and Mary Frances.
At the age of 108, she had one living sister, Leola Rice of Anderson.
Gladys Henry passed away in Anderson, South Carolina, on 17 November 2014, at the age of 110 years, 240 days.
