BIOGRAPHY

Doris Woodring was born in Glasco, Cloud County, Kansas, USA on 9 June 1910. Her parents were William Enoch and Mary Lucinda (née Williamson) Benson. She had seven siblings. She worked as nurse in Emporia, Kansas for three years after nurses training.

On 29 June 1935, she married Joseph McDowell Woodring in the Eastern Presbyterian Church on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Her husband later got a job in the Federal Government, and the two moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where they settled and started a family. The couple had five children. Her husband died in 1990.

In 1995, she moved to the Westminster senior living community in Lake Ridge, Virginia. She had won three medals at the senior Olympics since she started competing in 2016. She was a Mexican Dominoes champion, a game played with number dominoes where the object of the game is to make a chain, or a train.

One of her siblings, Marjorie Wooster (1912–2013) lived to be 100, and her sister-in-law (her husband’s sister) lived to be 101.

Woodring died in Lake Ridge, Virginia, USA on 30 April 2021 at the age of 110 years, 325 days. She was survived by three daughters, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
