Consuelo Fuentes Aranda was a Spanish supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Consuelo Fuentes Aranda was born in Santiago de Calatrava, Andalusia, Spain, on 25 May 1906.

In 2015, at the age of 109, she applied for long-term care. Until then, she had been self-sufficient, although she always had the support of her family. She had six children, five of whom were still living as of 2016 — the eldest was 82. Her husband had passed away around 1989, when Consuelo was 83 years old.

She attributed her long life to eating well, avoiding alcohol, and drinking water from el caño, a natural spring in the local area. Some of her favorite foods included fried bacon and migas (fried breadcrumbs). In 2016, Rocío Zamora, the mayor of Santiago, remarked that the advantages of rural life likely contributed to Consuelo’s longevity. She believed that living far from pollution and close to nature was beneficial for health. At that time, Consuelo was only taking a couple of pills a day for minor ailments. Her only significant health issue was related to her blood sugar — otherwise, her heart remained strong and healthy.

Consuelo Fuentes Aranda passed away in Santiago de Calatrava, on 22 September 2016, at the age of 110 years, 120 days.
