Ursula Nina Sawers was a British supercentenarian.
Ursula Sawers was born in Erith, London, England, on 12 October 1902. She had four sisters. She spent her career working as a nanny and carer, and married in 1934. The couple had no children and later retired to the island from Kent.
On her 109th birthday, she said that her secret to a long life was “a content mind.” She celebrated the occasion with champagne and cake, adding, “Be happy with what you’ve got—don’t keep striving for more.” She lived at Inver House Residential Home in Bembridge, where she remained active and independent, and shared her home with her 16-year-old cat, Sandy.
Ursula Sawers passed away in Bembridge, Isle of Wight, England, on 28 January 2013, at the age of 110 years, 108 days.
At the time of her passing, she was the oldest living person in the Isle of Wight. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Gladys Hooper.
Sawers’ age was verified by Melissa Page, and was validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) on 9 February 2021.
