BIOGRAPHY

Mumeno Itō (伊藤む免の) was born on 7 October 1905 in Takahata Town, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. She reportedly had six children, as well as 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

According to a TV-U Yamagata report when she was 109 years old, the secret to her vitality was eating well, and she finished almost all of her three daily meals. Known for her gentle personality, she was affectionately called “Grandma Mume” by fellow residents at her nursing home. She enjoyed reading people’s palms and chaƫng with those around her every day.

She passed away from natural causes at a hospital in Takahata Town, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, on 20 August 2016, at the age of 110 years and 318 days.
