Giichi Okumura [Japanese: 奥村儀一] was a Japanese supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in Hokkaidō at the time of his death.
Giichi Okumura (奥村儀一) was born on October 18, 1896, on Awaji Island in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan.
At the age of 10, he moved with his parents to Biratori in the Hidaka Subprefecture of Hokkaidō, where he spent his life working in agriculture. When he was 84, his wife Fumi passed away before him, but he continued to live surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—eight family members in total. In 2004, at the age of 107, he became the oldest living man in Hokkaidō.
At the age of 108, he was hospitalized, but he reportedly exercised by rotating his arms in his hospital room and said that his pleasures were drinking alcohol and eating rice.
On October 12, 2007, following the death of 111-year-old Kane Kagaya of Kushiro, Okumura became the oldest living person in Hokkaidō. The next day, on October 13, he passed away from acute myocardial infarction in Biratori at the age of 110 years and 360 days, just five days short of his 111th birthday. Following his death, Kiyoshi Igarashi became the oldest living man in the prefecture.
Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 6 November 2007 and later recognized by LongeviQuest.
