Grocke was born in Leederville, Western Australia, Australia on 18 November 1914. Bridget spent her early childhood in Kalgoorlie, later relocating across Western Australia as her family followed her father’s work as an engine driver.
She was the second eldest of seven children, she displayed remarkable independence at the age of 18 when she moved to Perth on her own. In Perth, Grocke began her career at David Jones, which was then known as Aherns. Her keen sense of fashion and ability to build rapport with customers quickly made her a valued and respected member of the team.
In 1942, she married Jim Grocke at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Subiaco, and together they raised a family of four children. Despite facing the loss of her husband in 1985 and the tragic passing of two of her children, Bridget Grocke remained surrounded by the love and support of her surviving son and daughter, along with 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She attributed her long life to her loving family. Her personality was described as “both easygoing and strict, providing clear guidance while ensuring she were always showing you the right path.” Grocke continued to live independently in her home in Doubleview until the age of 109, before moving to Bethanie Subiaco, where she resided in her later years.
Her age has not been validated by LongeviQuest.
