María Sánchez García was born in La Zubia, Andalusia, Spain, on 5 October 1913. She had two children, at later had at least two grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters. Widowed at 33, María’s husband had worked in La Vega while she managed the household. After his passing, she took charge of the family and began a journey through various regions, working as a domestic worker from Seville to Tangier and even France. Her family eventually split between the mainland and Palma de Mallorca in the Balearic Islands. She lived on the Balearic Islands until around age 102, when she relocated to La Zubia out of necessity.
When she turned 100, she celebrated with family in Palma de Mallorca. As of 2019, she had two sisters: Adora, aged 90, and Trini, aged 99. Another sister had passed away in 2016 at the age of 100. At 106, it was reported that she rarely needed to see a doctor: she didn’t go often, felt no pain, and had neither high blood sugar nor cholesterol issues. Her only complaint was that she became tired more easily. She didn’t wear glasses or follow a strict diet.
