Willie Lee McGhee (née Calhoun) was an American supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Willie Lee McGhee was born in Indian Creek, Bullock County, Alabama, USA, on 30 October 1911, to parents William Calhoun and Dora Kendrick. She attended Aberfoil School. She married Benjamin McGhee, and the couple had five children.

As a founding member of the Bullock County Civil Rights Movement, she dedicated herself to advancing social welfare and enhancing the lives of those around her. Her commitment extended to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), where she played an active role. Additionally, she served her community with distinction through her involvement with the Order of the Eastern Star and the Democratic National Committee. Her faith was central to her life. McGhee was a devoted member of the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a Deaconess and Usher and was honored as the church’s “Mother.”

Willie Lee McGhee passed away in Montgomery, Alabama, USA, on 12 January 2022, at the age of 110 years, 74 days.

RECOGNITION

At the time of her passing, she was the oldest (known) living person in the U.S. state of Alabama.
