BIOGRAPHY

Elizabeth Marazi was born in Alpha, New Jersey, United States, on 27 August 1907 (claimed 26 August), as one of six siblings born to Hungarian immigrant parents Alexander and Rose Marazi. The first language that she learned to speak was Hungarian, and only learned to speak English once she began attending school. Upon graduating from middle school, she chose to attend Churchman Business School, where she learned dictation, shorthand, and typing, allowing for her to graduate at the age of 17, making her the school’s youngest graduate.

Throughout her career, Marazi worked as a secretary for various companies, including Lehigh Portland Cement Company for 20 years. Before her retirement, she was employed as an executive secretary by Agrashell Inc., in Easton, Pennsylvania. A practicing Catholic, she also volunteered as a secretary for the Sacred Heart Sodality, and was the treasurer for Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She never married or had children.

In 2009, at the age of 101, Marazi moved from her home in Easton, Pennsylvania, to the Gracedale Nursing Home in Nazareth, where she would reside for the final decade of her life. She passed away in Nazareth, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, United States, on 1 April 2019, at the age of 111 years, 217 days.
