BIOGRAPHY

Green was born as Dorothy Corinne Hall in Amoret, Missouri, on 3 June 1911 as the second of four children born to Carlton Fisk Hall and Amanda Melvina Hicks. Her father ran a general store in which Green would assist him at a young age. She was told by him that she would gain more responsibilities once she could put a pencil behind her ear.

Green graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science in education. She married Springfield, Missouri resident Robert Harold Green in 1938, and the couple had a son, Robert “Bob” Jr. She worked as a homemaker and a teacher.

The first school that Green taught at had one room, heated by a wood stove. Her wages were $65 a month, and she had seven students in six different grades. Green and her elder sister would, in the early 1930s, journey to New York City to enroll in courses at local universities.

In her 70s, Green travelled to Egypt and rode a camel at the pyramids. She greatly enjoyed driving, choosing to give up aged 99 due to her desire to end her driving career with a clean record. Her hobbies included playing bridge and spending Saturday evenings at Jimm’s steakhouse in Springfield, Missouri.

At the age of 103, Green moved to Leawood, Kansas, to be closer to her family. She outlived all her siblings, Thelma, Eugene, and a sister who died in infancy. During her centenarian years, she moved into a residential care home.

Green died on 26 February 2024 at the age of 112 years, 268 days. She was survived by her son, her granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren, as well as several nephews and nieces.

RECOGNITION

Following the 28 April 2023 death of Margaret Hollenshead, 112, Green became the oldest resident of Kansas, despite researchers being unaware of her until after her death. Her successor to the title of Kansas’ oldest living person was 110-year-old Esther Groneman, who died three days later.

At the time of her death, Green was the sixth-oldest known person in the United States.

Green’s age was verified by Stefan Maglov and validated by LongeviQuest on 25 March 2024.
