Watanabe passed away in Kushiro, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan, on 21 December 2023, at the age of 111 years, 341 days.
RECOGNITION
In September 2020, Watanabe was reported to be one of the two oldest living people in the city of Kushiro.
In September 2023, Watanabe was reported to be the fifth-oldest living person in Hokkaido Prefecture.
Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Yu Li, Bogdan Solyanikov, and Marco Wikkerink, and validated by LongeviQuest on 22 February 2024.
