Kathleen “Kitty” Lang was a British supercentenarian. Her age has been validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO).

BIOGRAPHY

Kitty Lang was born in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire, England, on 10 September 1907. She trained as a nurse at St. James’ Hospital in Leeds and briefly worked in Bexhill-on-Sea before returning to Yorkshire.

In 1934, she married Arthur Lang, a bank accountant, in Leeds. After their marriage, she left her job to focus on family life. The couple remained married for 23 years until Arthur’s passing. They had one son, Patrick.

Following her husband’s death, she and her sister spent three months in the United States and Canada visiting relatives. Due to her sister’s heart condition, they traveled by sea instead of flying, a journey that took six days.

Kitty Lang passed away in Skipton, North Yorkshire, England, on 10 January 2018, at the age of 110 years, 122 days.

RECOGNITION

Following the passing of 109-year-old Nellie Wright (17 April 1907 – 29 December 2016) of Scarborough, she became the oldest known living person in North Yorkshire.

Lang’s age was verified by Dr. Andrew Holmes and validated by the ESO on 30 October 2020.
