LongeviQuest is pleased to announce the age validation of Shigeko Kagawa at 112 years old. She is a Japanese supercentenarian recognized as the oldest living person in Nara Prefecture since September 2022.
Shigeko Kagawa born on 28 May 1911 in Japan. She became a doctor in her twenties after graduating from Kansai Medical University (formerly Osaka Women’s Medical College). She worked at a hospital in Osaka, Japan, during the Pacific War in 1941 to 1945. She had a vivid memory of the city burnt down by air raids during the war.

After the Pacific War, Shigeko took over her family’s clinic as an obstetrician and gynecologist to contribute to the local medical care. She used to keep a telephone by her bedside so she could rush to her patients’ home whenever they needed medical assistance early in the morning or late at night.
Shigeko Kagawa served as the oldest torch runner for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics by completing the 300m while her wheelchair was being pushed by her granddaughter-in-law.
Shigeko Kagawa currently resides at her home in Yamatokōriyama, Nara Prefecture, while attending a daycare center twice a week.
