LongeviQuest is delighted to announce the age validation of Chiyono Kamono at 110 years old. She was a Japanese supercentenarian recognized as the oldest living person in Iwate Prefecture at the time of her death.

Chiyono Kamono was born on 4 September 1911 in Sakaricho (now part of Ōfunato), Iwate Prefecture, Japan.

Chiyono relocated to Tokyo and found employment at a beer factory in the 1912-1926 Taishō era. She got married at some point in her 20s but sadly, her husband passed away in Burma (now called Myanmar) during the Pacific War. Chiyono also endured the Tokyo Air Raids at that time while shielding her son from sparks that showered them. After the war, she returned to her hometown in Ōfunato and started farming as a means of provision for her family.

Kamono moved into a nursing home in 2008 wherein she experienced the impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake on 11 March 2011. Fortunately, she managed to avoid the tsunami by seeking refuge on the third floor of the nursing home. She described this event as something worse than war.

Chiyono Kamono passed away on 24 January 2022 in Ōfunato, Iwate Prefecture, Japan, at 3:49 PM. She was 110 years and 142 days old at the time of her death.
