Natsuko Fujiwara (Japanese: 藤原ナツコ) was a Japanese supercentenarian who, at the time of death, held the title of Hiroshima Prefecture's oldest living person.

Biography

Fujiwara was born in Japan on 29 September 1901.

According to her daughter-in-law Shizue, she still went for walks around her house until the age of 103.

Fujiwara passed away at her nursing home in Takayacho, Higashihiroshima City, on 23 January 2014, at the age of 112 years, 116 days.

Recognition

On 11 July 2013, following the passing of 113-year-old Jun Kitamasu, she became the oldest living person in Hiroshima Prefecture.

On 14 September 2013, at the age of 111, she was awarded congratulatory gifts and a bouquet of flowers by the city mayor when he visited her nursing home as part of a longevity celebration event before Respect for the Aged Day. As Fujiwara took to the podium, those present shouted “Congratulations!”, to which she replied “I haven’t done anything worth congratulating”, causing the room to erupt with laughter.

Following her passing, Take Matsui succeeded her as the oldest living person in the Prefecture.
