Masa Iseri

Masa Iseri was a Japanese supercentenarian who was the longevity recordholder of Kumamoto Prefecture from 2014 until 2017. She was among the top five oldest living people in Japan at the time of her death.

Biography

Iseri was born on 19 September 1902 in Japan. On 24 December 2011, aged 109, she became the oldest person in Kumamoto Prefecture following the death of 109-year-old Michida Koto.

In October 2014, Iseri broke the 39-year record of Mito Umeta to become the oldest resident of Kumamoto ever. She died on 5 March 2016 in Kumamoto City at the age of 113 years, 168 days. Her successor as Kumamoto’s oldest living person was Shizue Nagata, who went on to surpass her age and set a new record for the prefecture in January 2017.

Recognition

Iseri was reported every September during Keiro no hi (Respect for the Aged Day) in Japan from 2011 until her death. However, she is largely anonymous, with little biographical information and no known public photographs available.
