Biography

Savoie was born as Madeleine Doiron on 1 November 1899 in Caraquet, New Brunswick, Canada, as the eldest of eight children born to Lucien Doiron and Marie Légère, who were married ten months prior. She was baptised as Marie Madeleine Doiron four days after her birth.

Madeleine married Joseph Savoie on 20 September 1949, aged 49. The couple had no children. Savoie outlived seven all of her siblings, and later moved to Tracadie-Sheila, New Brunswick. Upon the death of 113-year-old Margaret Fitzgerald on 20 October 2009, she became the oldest living person in New Brunswick, and would turn 110 less than two weeks later.

Savoie died on 24 January 2010 at the age of 110 years, 84 days; her funeral was held on 26 January. She was survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was the oldest known person who was both born and residing in Canada.
