Kame Takamiyagi

Kame Takamiyagi [Japanese: 高宮城カメ] was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography

Kame Takamiyagi was born in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture on June 10, 1899.

Before the end of the war, she made her living knitting Panama hats in a cave near Shuri Castle, and she was so dexterous with her hands that she could use a sewing machine until she was 100 years old. At age 111, she spent her pastime singing her favorite nursery rhymes out loud.

Kame Takamiyagi passed away in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture on September 10, 2012 at the age of 113 years and 92 days. At the time of her death, she was the second-oldest person in Okinawa behind Kame Nakamura.
