Recognition

Uehara became Hiroshima Prefecture’s oldest resident upon the death of 112-year old Yoshikazu Yamashita on 7 July 2019. Almost a year later, following her own death, the title passed to Mitsuko Agawa, then aged 111.

Uehara’s age was verified by Takeo Inishie, Yu Li, and Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), and was validated by the GRG on 16 January 2020.
